ANKARA, Turkey: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is preparing a multibillion-dollar shopping list of Boeing airliners and Lockheed Martin fighter jets, with the deals tied to more than $10 billion in local production agreements, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The potential purchases, which would run into the hundreds of aircraft and jets, require approval from U.S. President Donald Trump, the report said.
The report could not be immediately verified. The White House, Boeing and Lockheed Martin did not respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours. Turkey's Defense Ministry declined to comment to Bloomberg and could not be reached by Reuters.
The developments came just ahead of Erdogan's Thursday meeting with Trump at the White House. unce trade and defense deals at the meeting, including a large Boeing aircraft order, a major F-16 agreement, and renewed talks over the F-35 program.
Erdogan confirmed this week that Turkey would negotiate the acquisition of F-35 fighter jets during his meeting with Trump.
