DUBLIN, Ireland: Police found 87,000 street tablets and 1 kg of cannabis, worth nearly 200,000 euros, during a raid on a Dublin apartment this week, a court heard.
Two people, Gavin Guinan Cahill (48) and Rebecca McEnroe (45), have been kept in custody while prosecutors decide what to do next. They are accused of having the drugs to sell from McEnroe's home in Dublin on May 13.
A Dublin drugs unit carried out the raid. In court, it was said the drugs were worth more than 198,000 euros.
Police officers opposed giving them bail. They said they had a warrant and had to force their way into the apartment. One officer said Guinan Cahill was caught at the scene and was asleep near some of the drugs.
The drugs were allegedly found in several rooms, including the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, wardrobes, and a bedside locker. Police also claimed there were weighing scales, packaging materials, and documents showing McEnroe lived there.
McEnroe's lawyer suggested she could stay at another address, but police rejected the request, saying the location was important to the investigation.
Guinan Cahill's lawyer said he is a vulnerable person who was taken advantage of and needs medical care while in custody.
Neither of them has entered a plea yet. They will appear in court again next week. Bail was refused, and both were given legal aid as they are on social welfare.
